Medical Insurance

All international students must have a valid health insurance during their period of stay in the Czech Republic.

Students from EU countries

Students coming from EU countries, as well as students from Iceland , Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland are entitled to the provision of necessary and urgent health medical care free of charge. It is necessary to demonstrate the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

It is recommended that students have supplementary travel insurance from their own country.

Students from non-EU countries

Students from countries outside the EU coming to the Czech Republic for a period longer than three months must arrange insurance with an insurance company that is authorized to provide these services in the Czech Republic under the Act, namely:

  • National insurance companies and companies from outside the EU who have been granted a license to operate insurance by Czech National Bank
  • Insurance companies from other EU countries, which scope of activity in the Czech Republic is based on the permissions of establishing branches or under a temporary permit for the provision of insurance services.

We suggest you to contact the embassy or agency authority for consultation and verification that the type of insurance complies with the requirements when applying for a study visa or long term stay over 90 days.
